WHAT’S NEW IN JANPATH…

We all know that we live in world which changes around us every second and in fashion, every micro second. Our way to explore is not only caged up with the internet, we like to roam around. And that what we we did in Janpath, in all the shops till our feet got pain and box of mind got full of ideas. We moved to the handloom house there and saw the kanthas, phulkaris and many more works with their history and process.

The people told us about the region it belongs to, their work, and the role of our textile ministry in it. When we ever move to the street markets like these, we never feel the help of our internet to know trends. We saw a lot of accessories and handloom with vibrant colors blooming this year in the market.

Janpath itself taught a lot about the mix and match and tricks of the communication that sellers use. Following the trend from last year, this time as well we could see  a lot of mustards, turquoise, blues, neutrals and pastels appearing in the markets. Basket weaves, tucks and pleats in a-lines, straights with the ruffled and bishop sleeves mostly will make this year colorful and elegant and that’s what Janpath market’ told us that day.

Fashion Trends for guys 2018

Dressing up for college can either be a simple procedure for guys out there or can be a nerve-racking process depending on your preferences. On one hand you have those who’s daily choice of clothing depends on what is on the top of the shelf or in some scenarios what is the item which smells the least. On the other hand, you have those who put it a lot of effort into their clothing because they want their clothing to portray their identity. It not needs to be an attire but a statement.

Now why does the person in the first scenario not put in any effort in dressing and why does the person in the second scenario put in so much effort? These are not questions we are trying to answer here. We believe that no matter what everyone should have a chance to express themselves through their attires and should have a good time doing it.

So here are a few tips to make it easier for you dress up on days when you don’t want to think a lot about your dressing and at the same time make the statement you want to be making:-

  • Class it up

The next time you reach for you daily t-shirt wait for a minute and ask yourself whether this is what you want to be your statement. In place of the t-shirt try and reach out to the polo shirt right beside it as could be a classier option with its clean cuts and form fitting shape.

  • Dark denims (clean)

There was once a time when jeans which were extremely distressed in terms of fabric and the rips were the order of the day. Luckily (or not) those days are past us. Today the statement you should be making is clean, calm and composed and it is a bit difficult to do that wearing jeans in which your knees are popping out. So, get yourself a pair of dark denims which will go well with almost everything in your wardrobe.

  • Statement socks

The simplest way to make your ankles look pretty. Before you say anything, yes, they do need to look pretty. Statement socks are catching on fast and it isn’t something we can complain about. So, ditch your basic drab socks and jazz up your ankles.

  • A slick watch

Checking your phone for the time is so not cool anymore. Watches speak a lot about the wearer and it is something you should be paying attention to. Your choice of options too are many. Smart watches, fitness watches, chronographs there is a choice for every person.

  • Shoes

Most often the most ignored article of clothing but it does say a lot about you. Ditch those lazy sneakers with everything and start wearing specific clothing with specific looks. Well designed shoes will go a long way.

So, the next time you don’t want to think a lot before dressing yourself maybe take a few hints from the list above and make the statement you want to make in college.

Autumn Winter wear for men 2018

Fashion is a universal commodity. Thinking about it, fashion is probably the only universal language out there. Consider this. One look at a person and you already have formed an opinion about the person, his tastes, his dislikes, his personality and everything. If that is the case then, shouldn’t you dress in a manner which speaks in the way you want it to speak and nothing else? First impressions are important and you
want to make sure that you make the impression you want and nothing else. So, this autumn we bring you
the hottest new trends to choose from, to make that great first impression.

The colour brown
Okay, right off the bat, let’s agree that brown may not rate as high on the sexy scale as something
like navy blue or grey, but brown, brings to the table a whole new range of possibilities. It is a
neutral tone which doesn’t need to remain dull, as this season, you could explore the full range of
shades, brown offers, including tan and a rich mahogany. So, try adding a splash of brown to your
outfit and see it become a little more sophisticated and stand out from the crowd.

The beauty of random
In fashion it is always thought that a certain degree of thought and preparation needs to go into
the outfit. But what if the anti-thesis was true too. This is something which seems to be a big hit
this AW. This style of dressing is more popularly also known as scumbro. It is more than a bit
difficult to explain this style as it literally is the most random thing ever. The art to nailing this
look, is to throw together the most random things, accessorise it and then carry it with the utmost
confidence.

Denim shirts
Rarely are there fabrics as versatile as denim, and rarely is there a piece of clothing as versatile as
a denim shirt. Depending on its cut and fit, the shirt can either be a formal shirt, which is worn
tucked in, or if its looser and hangs off your shoulders, then you should consider it for a night out
on the town. The best part? The weather makes this the perfect choice.

The 90’s are back
The 90’s are back in a big way and not the things we regret. This season sports’ wear from the
90’s has been brought back in the form of full tracksuits. A few more must haves in your closet
include some cool oversized sneakers and some fugly hats. Here’s a tip, combine all of them
together and have a very cool look which stands out like nothing before.

So, go ahead and make a statement with the hottest fashion trends this season while making the statement
you’ve always wanted to make.

How to choose your personal style

Everything is beautiful. By this, I know I really sound a bit weird, but it makes sense. Coming to fashion, it’s a fast growing sector in the world. Everyone has their own personal style. Wait, are you getting curious to know what your style is? Let me help you!

To build a personal style, you must be comfortable with your own skin and body. Yes, this is a must. You must not feel shy or uncomfortable when you’re in the fashion game. It’s time to experiment with everything you find new.

Secondly, know your skin complexion and body type. You must be fully aware of this, because it’s going to be a key factor.

Now, know your mindset. For example, if you’re a girly girl, you would mostly like ethnic, floral prints or something embroidered. If you’re a ‘not so girly girl‘, probably you’ll like boyfriend jeans, loose tees, and sneakers. If you’re a mix of both, VOILA!!! You can literally wear anything.

According to your skin complexion, pastel colours would be your saviour if you’re fair. Choose an ethnic or a casual piece, and you’re good to go. For medium, dusky and wheatish complexions, bright colors may look better on you. To be honest, every kind of jewellery looks good on you. Remember, not to go over the top as it makes you look weird. For dark complexions, you can mix up such things like, a kurti and skirt, white tee and blue jeans or something Indo Western. Go minimalistic for jewellery.

Coming to the body type! If you’re someone who’s too skinny, opt for fabric which makes you look a bit weighed. If you’re a bit fat or especially some of your body parts look fat, you should go with lighter fabrics and minimal jewellery. If you’re someone in between, choose one piece clothing, a statement jewellery item, and you’re good to go.

Over and above all this, remember to have confidence in yourself because no one can be you and you cannot be anyone. Always be comfortable in whatever you wear. Keep smiling to maintain an aura wherever you step in. Because these two, will always make you stand unique.

KRITIKA KHURANA

known as ‘THATBOHOGIRL’ is a famous Indian fashion blogger. She’s an inspiration for me and for many others as well. Her bohemian style inspires me the most. Being a fashion student, I always wanted to be a fashion stylist, and my all-time inspiration is ‘THATBOHOGIRL’ whose style is classic and bohoic. Bohemian style, referred to as ‘boho’ or ‘boho chic’ is a style which means ‘comfort’- often loose fitting, flowy clothes, or often worn in layers. Let’s have a look at some of her boho styles.

kritika-khurana

In the first picture, where she has styled herself in an off-shoulder brown top, with a bohemian silver jewellery, a classic sling with loose pants is a boho look in itself.

In the second picture, she has styled herself again with a bohemian look silver jewellery as she loves that kind of stuff and can be seen in most of her pictures.

Having a look at her last picture, which is her shoot with ‘ONLY’ is all about ‘layers’.

BLOCK PRINTING SESSION

ur textile faculty from ICF Ms. Bharti Mishra took the onus of taking the entire batch of MBA and BBA to a fascinating art of block printing. The session took place at Sarai Kale Khan where a team of artisans were performing this art for ages. We were briefed by artisans on how to do this art.

Further, we were separated into groups to do practical.

Materials we needed were:

  •  A few bowls or trays
  • Sponges (washing up sponges or ones used for car washing will do)
  • Table for printing
  • Carpet underlay or foam
  • Felt
  • Fabric – for natural dyes, use natural fabrics such as cotton, silk. For synthetic dyes, you can use any fabrics. Wool is not an ideal fabric for printing on as it does not produce a crisp outline
  • Textile paints or natural dyes mixed with the thickener

Artisans  directions :

  1. You need a table to pin your fabric to for printing. I used a simple wooden table to which I then stapled a piece of carpet underlay, a piece of baize felt (any felt will probably do), and a piece of calico cotton over the top.  Make sure each layer is tightly stretched over the table. This construction allows for an even, firm printing surface that you can tightly pin your fabric to.
  2. Pin your piece of fabric onto the covered table making sure the fabric is ironed and pinned flat.
  3. Squeeze out a blob of fabric paint or dye into a tray and dab the sponge into it ensuring the dye covers the sponge. You could also paint the dye over the sponge with a brush to ensure it is completely covered and soaks into the sponge.
  4. Press the block firmly into the sponge as many times as needed to ensure the colour covers the block completely.
  5. Press the block firmly onto the fabric with even pressure. Hold for a few seconds and carefully remove.
  6. Continue to print in a variety of colours, compositions, and repeats letting your creativity run away with you.
  7. Fixing the print will depend on the manufacturer. A common method is to iron on the reverse. For natural dyes, iron on the reverse, and then rinse in alternating temperatures of water with detergent.
  8. Clean the blocks by rinsing them in warm water and scrubbing with a bristle brush or toothbrush.

By keeping all the directions in mind, we choose different colors and blocks and made our own samples.

Fabric in Trend 2018

Fabric is to fashion like currency is to the economy. It makes up the very basis on which it operates and is the building blocks on which the rest is built. Fabric fulfils the same function with the type of fabric usually determining what the final product will try and convey to the consumer. So knowing what the trends are in designs is fine, but for the overall rounded look, it is important to understand the fabric which it will be composed of. So here’s a list which will hopefully try to do justice to all your needs and help you craft the trendiest look for the upcoming season.

Look east

Don’t worry this isn’t a trade policy but this is something top designers in India are doing while going about their designs. The north-eastern part of India has a rich cultural heritage and there has been an attempt to bring it out recently. From Assam we have the classic Muga and Pat silk woven into intricate patterns. Nagaland gives you a chance to experiment with the traditional back strap weaving technique called loin loom. The list of opportunities however doesn’t end here for you could even try out the pure cotton handloom fabric worn by the Meitei of Manipur and so on. The list is never ending but it would break the monotony of your regular wear and give you the chance to stand out. Do so quickly, as this is a fast emerging trend and may not be so novel very soon.

Classic style staples

Some fabrics never go out of fashion, they are just reborn in different avatars and all we can do is to keep up. This season therefore amp up the flash and the pizazz with sequins, but none of the small stuff. We are talking sequins of the big variety. It’s just like they say- go big or go home!  Another fashion favourite these days are chunky knits. Extremely comfy, they need minimal accessories as they tend to look cute without any effort. And lest we forget the staple, nobody should ever throw out of their closet; lace. Lace is the sort of fabric which speaks effortlessly for itself and you should let it do so as this extremely versatile material can be moulded into anything from dresses to leggings.

What is it if not sustainable?

There has been a rise of a new manner of fabrics which are catching on quick considering the state of the ecosystem right now.  Today a customer demands multi-functional fashion which will provide aesthetic beauty as well as functional features in one product. Smart sustainable fibres are riding this new wave which not only satisfies the customer’s needs but also keeps the environment clean at the same time. Fibres made out of rose, coffee or pineapple are thus the cutting edge of fabric today.

So what fabrics do you think match with your needs and persona as you prepare for the season?

Lakme Fashion Week

India’s premier fashion event, the Lakme Fashion Week took place right at the beginning of the year to give us all a glimpse into what to expect for the season going forward. Some of us have that intuitive sixth sense regarding what to do regarding fashion while some of us need to watch the creative mind of the designer at work to know what to do. Whatever the taste, watching the work of the best designers walk down the runway gives us a sense of exhilaration, not frequently matched. The sense of endless possibilities and the creative genius at work makes us believe in the beauty of the clothes we wear and what it could do for us. So, let’s have a brief look at the trends which got our hearts racing during this year’s fashion week.

  • Pastels and sheers

Once upon a time in a world far far away, pastels and sheers were meant to be for your summer silhouette. But in this world now it isn’t only meant for the summers. Get it into your winter wardrobes could very well turn into everyday staples for you during times you never thought of. We were seeing indications of this trend slowly flowing into the marriage season but now its final. Get your bridal wear redone because sheers and pastels are here to stay.

  • Layers

Layers are the easiest and best way to make something relatively mundane stylish and more fashionable. It is something the designers didn’t let go of on the ramp as the models strutted in their layered attires. So as a tip this year add dimensions to your outfits and go berserk with the variety of layers possible.

  • A discord of prints

Edgy prints are something we are used to seeing from the designers in any season but discordant prints are something which really catch they eye. This was something which we really can’t call a trend on the runway but it is something which caught the eyes of the viewers and hopefully yours too.

  • For the bride to be

There was a plethora of inspiration to take for a possible bride and her bridesmaids as designers chose to take inspiration from nature and included themes like “Songs of summer” and “A garden of flowers”. So, flowy nature inspired fashion is the order of the day if you are looking to get married soon with off shoulder blouses and capes being a choice too.
