WHAT’S NEW IN JANPATH…

We all know that we live in world which changes around us every second and in fashion, every micro second. Our way to explore is not only caged up with the internet, we like to roam around. And that what we we did in Janpath, in all the shops till our feet got pain and box of mind got full of ideas. We moved to the handloom house there and saw the kanthas, phulkaris and many more works with their history and process.

The people told us about the region it belongs to, their work, and the role of our textile ministry in it. When we ever move to the street markets like these, we never feel the help of our internet to know trends. We saw a lot of accessories and handloom with vibrant colors blooming this year in the market.

Janpath itself taught a lot about the mix and match and tricks of the communication that sellers use. Following the trend from last year, this time as well we could see  a lot of mustards, turquoise, blues, neutrals and pastels appearing in the markets. Basket weaves, tucks and pleats in a-lines, straights with the ruffled and bishop sleeves mostly will make this year colorful and elegant and that’s what Janpath market’ told us that day.

Fashion Trends for guys 2018

Dressing up for college can either be a simple procedure for guys out there or can be a nerve-racking process depending on your preferences. On one hand you have those who’s daily choice of clothing depends on what is on the top of the shelf or in some scenarios what is the item which smells the least. On the other hand, you have those who put it a lot of effort into their clothing because they want their clothing to portray their identity. It not needs to be an attire but a statement.

Now why does the person in the first scenario not put in any effort in dressing and why does the person in the second scenario put in so much effort? These are not questions we are trying to answer here. We believe that no matter what everyone should have a chance to express themselves through their attires and should have a good time doing it.

So here are a few tips to make it easier for you dress up on days when you don’t want to think a lot about your dressing and at the same time make the statement you want to be making:-

  • Class it up

The next time you reach for you daily t-shirt wait for a minute and ask yourself whether this is what you want to be your statement. In place of the t-shirt try and reach out to the polo shirt right beside it as could be a classier option with its clean cuts and form fitting shape.

  • Dark denims (clean)

There was once a time when jeans which were extremely distressed in terms of fabric and the rips were the order of the day. Luckily (or not) those days are past us. Today the statement you should be making is clean, calm and composed and it is a bit difficult to do that wearing jeans in which your knees are popping out. So, get yourself a pair of dark denims which will go well with almost everything in your wardrobe.

  • Statement socks

The simplest way to make your ankles look pretty. Before you say anything, yes, they do need to look pretty. Statement socks are catching on fast and it isn’t something we can complain about. So, ditch your basic drab socks and jazz up your ankles.

  • A slick watch

Checking your phone for the time is so not cool anymore. Watches speak a lot about the wearer and it is something you should be paying attention to. Your choice of options too are many. Smart watches, fitness watches, chronographs there is a choice for every person.

  • Shoes

Most often the most ignored article of clothing but it does say a lot about you. Ditch those lazy sneakers with everything and start wearing specific clothing with specific looks. Well designed shoes will go a long way.

So, the next time you don’t want to think a lot before dressing yourself maybe take a few hints from the list above and make the statement you want to make in college.

ORIENTATION WEEK MBA FE 2018

Our ICF orientation story began with the instant connection we had with our mentors and were immediately made comfortable. Everyone bonded over the fact that although ICF was a small campus, we were all just as lost and confused. It was fairly easy to make new friends during orientation because despite where we all came from, we were experiencing things we’ve never encountered before, together. Despite not getting a chance to get to know every single person at orientation at a personal level, we merely felt at ease when we later walked through campus and recognized those same friendly faces which we found kind and approachable.

Our first tryst with our future in the world of fashion started with a tête-à-tête with the Industry leaders, addressing our wondering thoughts on our careers in the fashion industry.

Excited about the experience, we stepped into the campus the next day greeted by the seniors, who were there to make our first day at the campus a flawless experience.

The entire week was well planned by our mentors to walk us through some Industry know-how, scenarios and networking with the professionals and our subject guides.

Day 1

Meena Balija

Ms. Meena Balija: Founder of Hand in Hand, visited as guest speaker for our first day of orientation week. We all were extremely delighted by her knowledge and thoughts. She very well explained how to start a business by pre-planning with the right resources. We all were very glad to have her gesture.

Day 2

We were blessed to have this day included in our orientation week. As it was Teacher’s Day we came to know about our college faculties better.

Altogether, it was a fun day with lots of dance, drama and determination.

Day 3

Praveen Tiwari

This day was more about interaction with our guest speaker and college faculties. Firstly, we had Mr. Shivraj, owner of Label AASK. He began the session by introducing himself and gave a brief on his label. Further up, we had an interactive session in which students asked questions which they had in their minds related to fashion and entrepreneurship.

Day 4

Vikas Malik

As we moved along time to our orientation week, it was more into creating enthusiasm. Firstly, we had Mr. Vikas Malik, the owner of label ‘House of Tara’, as our guest speaker today. He portrayed his journey in a very mesmerising manner that we all were charged with positive vibes. It will definitely help us to go through to all ups and downs in our entrepreneurial journey.

Next up, we had Mr. Praveen Tiwari, a weaving technologist, to introduce us to the textiles and how to identify them. Weaving was in the bloodline of their generations. He explained about Indian Handlooms and Power-looms with samples, he also introduced us to the varieties of textiles.

We enjoyed our orientation week. It was very learning and inspiring from all the guest speakers and faculties. Hope their words will be throughout with us in our own entrepreneurship journey as well.

Autumn Winter wear for men 2018

Fashion is a universal commodity. Thinking about it, fashion is probably the only universal language out there. Consider this. One look at a person and you already have formed an opinion about the person, his tastes, his dislikes, his personality and everything. If that is the case then, shouldn’t you dress in a manner which speaks in the way you want it to speak and nothing else? First impressions are important and you
want to make sure that you make the impression you want and nothing else. So, this autumn we bring you
the hottest new trends to choose from, to make that great first impression.

The colour brown
Okay, right off the bat, let’s agree that brown may not rate as high on the sexy scale as something
like navy blue or grey, but brown, brings to the table a whole new range of possibilities. It is a
neutral tone which doesn’t need to remain dull, as this season, you could explore the full range of
shades, brown offers, including tan and a rich mahogany. So, try adding a splash of brown to your
outfit and see it become a little more sophisticated and stand out from the crowd.

The beauty of random
In fashion it is always thought that a certain degree of thought and preparation needs to go into
the outfit. But what if the anti-thesis was true too. This is something which seems to be a big hit
this AW. This style of dressing is more popularly also known as scumbro. It is more than a bit
difficult to explain this style as it literally is the most random thing ever. The art to nailing this
look, is to throw together the most random things, accessorise it and then carry it with the utmost
confidence.

Denim shirts
Rarely are there fabrics as versatile as denim, and rarely is there a piece of clothing as versatile as
a denim shirt. Depending on its cut and fit, the shirt can either be a formal shirt, which is worn
tucked in, or if its looser and hangs off your shoulders, then you should consider it for a night out
on the town. The best part? The weather makes this the perfect choice.

The 90’s are back
The 90’s are back in a big way and not the things we regret. This season sports’ wear from the
90’s has been brought back in the form of full tracksuits. A few more must haves in your closet
include some cool oversized sneakers and some fugly hats. Here’s a tip, combine all of them
together and have a very cool look which stands out like nothing before.

So, go ahead and make a statement with the hottest fashion trends this season while making the statement
you’ve always wanted to make.

How to choose your personal style

Everything is beautiful. By this, I know I really sound a bit weird, but it makes sense. Coming to fashion, it’s a fast growing sector in the world. Everyone has their own personal style. Wait, are you getting curious to know what your style is? Let me help you!

To build a personal style, you must be comfortable with your own skin and body. Yes, this is a must. You must not feel shy or uncomfortable when you’re in the fashion game. It’s time to experiment with everything you find new.

Secondly, know your skin complexion and body type. You must be fully aware of this, because it’s going to be a key factor.

Now, know your mindset. For example, if you’re a girly girl, you would mostly like ethnic, floral prints or something embroidered. If you’re a ‘not so girly girl‘, probably you’ll like boyfriend jeans, loose tees, and sneakers. If you’re a mix of both, VOILA!!! You can literally wear anything.

According to your skin complexion, pastel colours would be your saviour if you’re fair. Choose an ethnic or a casual piece, and you’re good to go. For medium, dusky and wheatish complexions, bright colors may look better on you. To be honest, every kind of jewellery looks good on you. Remember, not to go over the top as it makes you look weird. For dark complexions, you can mix up such things like, a kurti and skirt, white tee and blue jeans or something Indo Western. Go minimalistic for jewellery.

Coming to the body type! If you’re someone who’s too skinny, opt for fabric which makes you look a bit weighed. If you’re a bit fat or especially some of your body parts look fat, you should go with lighter fabrics and minimal jewellery. If you’re someone in between, choose one piece clothing, a statement jewellery item, and you’re good to go.

Over and above all this, remember to have confidence in yourself because no one can be you and you cannot be anyone. Always be comfortable in whatever you wear. Keep smiling to maintain an aura wherever you step in. Because these two, will always make you stand unique.

Fabric in Trend 2018

Fabric is to fashion like currency is to the economy. It makes up the very basis on which it operates and is the building blocks on which the rest is built. Fabric fulfils the same function with the type of fabric usually determining what the final product will try and convey to the consumer. So knowing what the trends are in designs is fine, but for the overall rounded look, it is important to understand the fabric which it will be composed of. So here’s a list which will hopefully try to do justice to all your needs and help you craft the trendiest look for the upcoming season.

Look east

Don’t worry this isn’t a trade policy but this is something top designers in India are doing while going about their designs. The north-eastern part of India has a rich cultural heritage and there has been an attempt to bring it out recently. From Assam we have the classic Muga and Pat silk woven into intricate patterns. Nagaland gives you a chance to experiment with the traditional back strap weaving technique called loin loom. The list of opportunities however doesn’t end here for you could even try out the pure cotton handloom fabric worn by the Meitei of Manipur and so on. The list is never ending but it would break the monotony of your regular wear and give you the chance to stand out. Do so quickly, as this is a fast emerging trend and may not be so novel very soon.

Classic style staples

Some fabrics never go out of fashion, they are just reborn in different avatars and all we can do is to keep up. This season therefore amp up the flash and the pizazz with sequins, but none of the small stuff. We are talking sequins of the big variety. It’s just like they say- go big or go home!  Another fashion favourite these days are chunky knits. Extremely comfy, they need minimal accessories as they tend to look cute without any effort. And lest we forget the staple, nobody should ever throw out of their closet; lace. Lace is the sort of fabric which speaks effortlessly for itself and you should let it do so as this extremely versatile material can be moulded into anything from dresses to leggings.

What is it if not sustainable?

There has been a rise of a new manner of fabrics which are catching on quick considering the state of the ecosystem right now.  Today a customer demands multi-functional fashion which will provide aesthetic beauty as well as functional features in one product. Smart sustainable fibres are riding this new wave which not only satisfies the customer’s needs but also keeps the environment clean at the same time. Fibres made out of rose, coffee or pineapple are thus the cutting edge of fabric today.

So what fabrics do you think match with your needs and persona as you prepare for the season?

Lakme Fashion Week

India’s premier fashion event, the Lakme Fashion Week took place right at the beginning of the year to give us all a glimpse into what to expect for the season going forward. Some of us have that intuitive sixth sense regarding what to do regarding fashion while some of us need to watch the creative mind of the designer at work to know what to do. Whatever the taste, watching the work of the best designers walk down the runway gives us a sense of exhilaration, not frequently matched. The sense of endless possibilities and the creative genius at work makes us believe in the beauty of the clothes we wear and what it could do for us. So, let’s have a brief look at the trends which got our hearts racing during this year’s fashion week.

  • Pastels and sheers

Once upon a time in a world far far away, pastels and sheers were meant to be for your summer silhouette. But in this world now it isn’t only meant for the summers. Get it into your winter wardrobes could very well turn into everyday staples for you during times you never thought of. We were seeing indications of this trend slowly flowing into the marriage season but now its final. Get your bridal wear redone because sheers and pastels are here to stay.

  • Layers

Layers are the easiest and best way to make something relatively mundane stylish and more fashionable. It is something the designers didn’t let go of on the ramp as the models strutted in their layered attires. So as a tip this year add dimensions to your outfits and go berserk with the variety of layers possible.

  • A discord of prints

Edgy prints are something we are used to seeing from the designers in any season but discordant prints are something which really catch they eye. This was something which we really can’t call a trend on the runway but it is something which caught the eyes of the viewers and hopefully yours too.

  • For the bride to be

There was a plethora of inspiration to take for a possible bride and her bridesmaids as designers chose to take inspiration from nature and included themes like “Songs of summer” and “A garden of flowers”. So, flowy nature inspired fashion is the order of the day if you are looking to get married soon with off shoulder blouses and capes being a choice too.

Street Style Trends

So, it’s time for another season and it’s time to wonder what fashion is up to these days. It’s a deceptive little thing fashion, along with its partner in crime the trend it wreaks havoc through wardrobes everywhere. What colors has it decided to lean towards this time? Has it decided to be sensible this time or has it gone completely wild? Will you need to replace your entire wardrobe or are you set with a few tweaks to your existing collection. Don’t fret for we have put in the time to get you the highlights of the season as you get set to rock and roll.

  1. Sheer

Good news for all you girls out there. Sheer skirts and sleeves are still in as top designers bring their sheer creations to run way. So, don’t forget to rock that sheer top on a night out with your friends or spice up a date with just amount of sheer. Just remember there is a thing as too much sheer.

  1. White boots

This is something we have seen cropping up all over the place. A beautiful pair of ankle length white boots is something which is surprisingly versatile now that we see it.  From giving that dress an edgy look to bringing back retro with a pair of well crafted trousers. This is fast becoming a must have for both men and women.

  1. Warm those toes

Praise those cold nights when you feared frostbite but braved it nevertheless because you had those amazing new heels to show off. Fret not because turns out you can pair those amazing heels with socks to stop your toes from falling off. Not only your heels but they go well with your sandals too.

  1. Colors

It is tempting to take the demure route with some muted colors and safe colors but if the European Fashion Shows are anything to go by then the colors will be anything but be muted. Don’t be afraid to wear outfits which pop out. At the same time there should be no hesitation in going monochrome. Take one color and go wild with it. Pro note- Try it out with your fancy white boots. Keep an eye out for emerald green and yellow.

  1. It’s a ruff world

Ruffles are all the range this time. Paired with or without pleats these are two killer statements this season. So go all in if you dare.

  1. Statement bags with writing

The reputation of a statement bag precedes itself but what about a statement bag which is actually capable of putting across who you are with a slick quote or statement  on the side. A very nice fusion of words and fashion this is something we can definitely get behind and can also see catching on in a bigger way.

  1. Checks

An ever-lasting fashion staple, it shows no signs of quitting anytime soon. So, bring back those checks from the bottom of the wardrobe and rock it never before.

This list is not intended to be exhaustive in its scope. Fashion is limited only by your imagination and what you can think of. So this season let go of all inhibitions and have fun.

Embracing Technology in Fashion Industry

In the enchanting world of glamour, a fashion trend is very short-lived and changes with a blink of an eye. So is the case with technology. Technology is advancing and evolving at a pace which is hard to comprehend. For instance, not long ago, a watch had merely one function and that was to show time. Now a watch can monitor your heart rate, the steps you have taken in the entire day and even the calories that burnt during your daily activities. But you might ask, what does technology has to do with fashion?
Well, technology is changing every industry globally, and the fashion industry is no exception to this transformation.

So how exactly is technology helping revolutionize fashion? Here’s a small compilation of most the tech trends that are changing the fashion industry:

1. The smartphone mania:
A millennial has seen the rise of smartphones. Smartphones have definitely changed the way entrepreneurs approach a business. With top brands and latest fashion available at fingertips, retailers and fashion giants have changed their business strategies to cover e-commerce. This has also helped local businesses to reach out to their potential audience effectively increasing their business many folds.

2. The rise of Artificial Intelligence:
You might be seeing ads on the internet about those jeans you searched recently. Or perhaps recommendations of what you might like on your favorite shopping website? And aren’t we impressed with that? The magician behind all this is an AI engine which has, over the time, learned what kind of products you like. This has helped e-commerce websites to give personalized shopping experience to users, helping them find the right things.

3. Smart Wearables:
We are not just talking about smartwatches that connect to your phones. The possibilities are infinite. Imagine, clothes that can charge your cellphones or materials that can change color according to your mood? The possibilities are endless and are becoming a reality as we speak.

4. Virtual and Augmented reality:
AR and VR technology are transforming customer experience at retail stores and even on e-commerce websites. You can try your favorite clothes without actually trying them, and know how they will look on you. You might be familiar with putting on glasses on your face to see which frame of spectacles suit you, you were experiencing Augmented Reality.

Fashion is changing, and the industry is definitely embracing technology and the new horizons it brings with it.
