From the Editor’s Desk

manya kakkarDear Readers
I hope you are having a great time reading the IC Connect so far. I am really delighted to have started this journey with you a year ago. In the last 11 editions, we have been receiving your immense love and support through your articles, blogs, stories and highly appreciated feedback. Your feedbacks were something that gave our team motivation and kept us working with full zeal.
In order to save and conserve the environment, we have been issuing the e-version of our newsletter which will be continued henceforth. Now that we have completed a year, we have opened our doors from Fashion and Finance to General topics to be covered in our newsletter, to keep you connected with some vital everyday issues.

As an editor, with this 12th edition, I am bidding adieu to IC Connect. However, this would not put a disruption to your read as the team would continue sharing with you our monthly editions as per the schedule.

Being the editor of this newsletter has not been just another leadership position but a meaningful lifetime experience for me. I thank the audience and the contributors for being a crucial part of it. Wishing you all a great read in the future!

But self-realisation occurs only when life strikes you hard; when on an unfortunate day, either you or a loved one ends up on a hospital bed.

It was around 1980s; the late 80s and the 90s saw a spurt growth of fashion in India. It was only in 1999 that India showcased its first ever fashion show. Of course, there existed many designers before the 90s but the fashion industry was never that widespread until late 80s and 90s.

THE PRET IMPERATIVE

I became the head (Executive Director) of the FDCI, now nearly a decade ago. Our office was in an apartment in Saket, a common practice at that time. To reach the office on the second floor, we had to walk up the stairs and jump over a sleeping dog known for being aggressive when provoked.

'Jugaad' is our most precious resource in India

The word 'Jugaad' originated in Punjab and is used for the locally made motor vehicles. These vehicles are like wooden bullock carts, and are made by carpenters by fitting a diesel engine to it. 'Jugaads' are used in all villages of Punjab. Now the word 'Jugaad' has become synonymous with low-cost, innovative quick-fix solutions invented by creative and imaginative persons by out-of-box thinking to solve difficult issues by simple common place methods.
